Is there anyone who has competed in RoR classes, i have entered my ex racer in the Cheshire show and i have no idea what to expect, don't even know if we jump or just do a ridden show ? Can anyone tell me if we jump how big the fences are going to be. Would love to hear from you if your entering the RoR class at cheshire show, 23rd June.

Also don't know which bridle to put him in as i have both the double and just a plain snaffle, Smokey goes better in his snaffle but everyone else in showing seems to ride in a double.

Assume you are doing the Racehorse to competition horse, the one over a workers course?

Depends on your show - I have found that the qualifiers I have done were all bigger than the finals at Addington! Usally around 2'6'' - 2'9''.

Everyone goes in one at a time, usually catalogue order, to jump, then come back together to do your go around and individul show. Check the rules for what you MUST show in the individul, off the top of my head it is serpentine, change of lead thru trot, rein back, walk on a loose rein?

It will be around the workers track - you may well just be jumping a much scaled down HOYS/Open course so it will be well designed to get you moving forwards, and might look quite imposing more like knock down XC jumps.

Snaffle is absolutely fine - it is in the rules that you may use snaffle, pelham or double, and if he prefers it, then much better that than a lesser performance in a double.

Good luck!!

Ah sorry I assumed becuase you mentionned jumping that is what you would be doing. (teach me to scan read a post!)

It has the same format as a Riding Horse class, go around including a gallop (appropriate to your horse, ie if you have a hack they arent really expected to blast!!), then pull in for the judge ride, strip for conformation (you will need a groom in the ring here) and then back on for a final line up.

Snaffles are just fine - my litle gelding came 2nd in his first ever RoR class in a hanging cheek snaffle :-)

Best of luck, look forward to reading the report!

Thats a very pretty horse you have! I have 2, one is a big handsome brute (looks like the incredible hulk next to the others in the parade ring at P2P and even more giant in the show ring with horses like yours

) t'other one is a little less good looking but gives a beautiful ride and doesn't look too bad with clever bridle work
