me and my OH organised a sponsered ride in August in aid of Kent Air Ambulance. This is our 6 th year and we have raised over 8k for them.
Our problem this year is finding stewards for the day. We had the cadets last year, have tried for them this year but getting no replies. i cant depend on freinds to do it as I have been let down before. if I go to the local pony club I would have to give them some of the money and I worry they will try and take over. Scouts and Guides would be too young.
If I cant find anyone, the ride will be cancelled which is the last thing I want.
Any suggestions?

Why not consider asking the PC if they will help out - if you have to give them some of the money ask if you can have an arrangement at one of their shows in order to raise money for the Air Ambulance - cake stalls always go down well - but even bucket rattling should work well with the people who will be at the show. I doubt they'd want to take over.

What's wrong with giving the local pony club a bit of money to help? Surely with contacts they would bring in more people to the event anyway. As has been said maybe they could collect on the day or something.

Hi have you tried the local high school, some schools do thing like have a group of responsible pupils help in the showjumping ring at the county shows, as work experince,
or try a local riding club.

Thinking a bit outside the box here, are there any other local sporting groups (who therefore might like to raise funds for Air Ambulance), like a rugby club, motorcycle club etc who might join forces with you and help with the stewarding? Or even the local Lions, that type of group? Or your local riding club, there are always non riding members/parents etc. The name of their organisation could be added to the donation too? Just trynig to think of a way to help, it would be a shame to not hold the ride.

If guides/scouts are too young, what age are you looking for? Also, how many people, what time commitment is required (ie when to arrive, time to leave etc), what would they need to be able to do?

This will help us think of possible solutions to the problem.

ps - did you see my PM (about 3 weeks ago)? I know since the new format the notification system has been a bit 'iffy'.

Hi

Contact the lady who organsises the Pink Ride at Speedgate events@speedgate.co.uk - she might be able to give you some advice on what she does. Hers is a huge event which runs over two days so she needs loads of stewards. I think most volunteer to do it. x

Thanks for all of the replies.
I need probably 6-8 people, over 16, from 8.30 til 4 to steward road crossings around the ride. I dont mind giving a small donation to whoever does it, I have just been told PC can sometimes be a little, shall we say, greedy. (but that is just hearsay).
I do have one other group I can try, its just getting close now, and I am getting twitchy!!

HollyB66, I am so sorry, I did receive your pm, did I not reply? We do have a website where you can get all the details of the ride, www.happyhack.co.uk.

Perhaps some of us Kent peeps can put some flyers up in our yards?

Maybe some of the people attending the ride might have an OH that might volunteer whilst they do the ride?

What about older Scouts/Guides, especially those doing Duke of Edinburgh? I should think that they would be at least as old as PC. Could you advertise for volunteers in your local newspaper? Or ask other local group for assistance, e.g. Lions/Roundtable etc, Church groups maybe?

That's a good idea 'pearlsasinger' there is a volunteering for a charity section in the Duke of Edinburgh award. My son is only 15 so would be too young, he's on the bronze stage. So, I would guess aiming for anyone doing silver or gold could help them as well as the event.
