Can anyone help?

My Shetland had an abcess that resulted in quittor in 2006. He went into horsepital and had regional perfusion to the hoof plus oral antibiotics but both of these treatments failed. He was subsequently operated on to remove the infected cartilege and has made a full recovery, although he is now retired. At the time, my vet described the treatments available as bronze, silver and gold; bronze being oral antibiotics, silver the regional perfusion and gold being the surgery. He then recommended all three be undertaken, so we tried the first two and eneded up with the surgery. My pony's hoof looks completely normal, no mis shaping at all .
