I tried to call my trusty farrier today but keep getting a T-Mobile message telling me the person is unavailable ATM. I'm worried I wont be able to contact him and my ponies need soing soon(stupid me leaving everything until the last minute).

I'm going to try him again tomorrow, but does anyone have any recommendations just in case?

Our Farrier is Rob Fawcitt, he's based in Ilkley, although he's full really but you could try him. He's brilliant to the point people comment on our horses feet when at competition. Aireworth vets at Keighley use him as a remedial farrier too (if you ever need a horse vet they are a good practice).
PM me if you want his number.
I also know there's Chris Pedley (Harrogate based) & Graham Harland (not sure where he is these days). Chris has a few apprentices so you may get more of a chance to get him or his team.
Sorry, but I don't know of anyone that side of the hill otherwise.....
Although you could always give Hird and Partners (vets) a call as they're lameness vets nr Halifas so may be able to recommend anyone they use for remedial work.

I dont have anyone to recommend but i will say and am prepared to get shot down in flames for this but maybe its a little unfair to drop your farrier because you didnt contact him sooner.

I have had clients drop me because they could not get hold of me (one or two days) or i could not fit them in at such short notice but they were ringing me only when 'desperate' and the horses 'needed doing urgently' and i wonder why they dont just book in or ring sooner before all the shoes fall off

I agree TheFarrier, and in relation to my previous post, all Farriers mentioned are good farriers with a lot of clients, so for a one off you may struggle to get them.
My view is that they also don't like p!ssing on each others patches either, so you may have to be careful.
And apologies if this sounds a bit severe, it's not meant to..... just know you need to look after your farriers if they're good :-)

I should've explained; this will be the last time I use him anyway as my ponies will be moving up to the Dales in the next month or so. My farrier is a very good farrier and I will be sad to lose him but I doubt he'd drive the 50 miles and back again(I will ask him though!) to do 2 trims and a set of fronts.

I know it's my fault and I will only use someone else as a last resort.

My farrier was saying the same thing the other day. He was on my yard and he got a really shitty phone call telling him he is sacked because he couldnt get to her before the end of the week (it was tues). When he put the phone down, he said it was now week 9 since her horses were last done and she was demanding he came almost instantaneously!

Not saying you are this demanding but for 15 years of owning horses I have AWLAYS booked my next session before the farrier leaves. 6 weeks notice and I cant see why people dont bother to do this.

I usually do and always have done in the past but as I said above they are moving soon and I've been trying to find some land for a few months so didn't really know if they were still going to be in Keighley for their next trim. I'm also a terribly disorganised person
