I want to reschool my new pony. He is lovely to ride, but a little strong and could do with some reminders (as could I)

I don't like lessons if I am honest and for what I am going to be doing with him (hacking, bit of jumping and maybe the odd local show) I'd rather save the money for other things.

Can anyone recommend a good book or DVD which can show me step by step how best to school my little man? He is a Haflinger with very stumpy little legs (think Thelwell Pony!) So nothing too fancy, just good basic schooling that every horse should have.

Thanks

Scales of Training Workbook by Sylvia Lock?

Lots of stuff to try depending on what interests you at the time.

Alternatively - go through all the back issues of all your horsey magazines and pull out all the exercises etc to keep in an arch lever folder. Great for moments when inspriation is needed!

101 schooling exercises for horse and rider is very good, gives loads of ideas , starts off with the basics, and explains them well including diagrams. £10.49 on amazon

Mary Wanless (Ride with Your Mind) DVD's are (to me) old fashioned but have some detailed stuff in it if you want to concentrate on your position, balanace, aids, etc to ensure that you are as correct as possible to help the horse go as correctly as possible. But to be honest, getting someone to video you is also an amazing way to improve.

Bookwise, there is an inspirational book called 101 Schooling Exercises, also 101 Jumping Exercises ..... I don't think that is quite as useful but maybe thats because I am not that keen on jumping!

Both Mary wanless for position etc and 101 schooling exercises. Has diagrams and explanations. I had ridden for many years but never knew how to scholar properly until I got this book. Amazing. :-)
