As title really, looking to buy my girl a heavy weight stable rug with a neck.. any suggestions where to look? brands etc?

All answers appreciated

:D

Thanks Ali2 - they only seem to have 2 choices though

npage123 - thanks i shall have a look :).. my mares going to start coming in (first time for her bless her) and the stables are pretty airy .. she's not grown ANY winter coat (very tb'y in her coat) and i feel mean taking off a HW and putting on a LW stable.. hence the need for another () new rug :P

i cannot reccomend mark todd/ JHL enough the extra panel over the wither is excellent i have also never know a horse to have its mane rubbed out by it - i have a couple of the TO versions and theya re excellent

You're welcome :)
Is it already very, very cold where you are?
Isn't it possible to put the use of the HW turn-out off for a bit longer? It would give her a chance to grow more of a winter coat then. If you do, then you could probably get away with a medium weight stable rug until it's proper winter and freezing during the night?
(I've built up a huge stock of all types and weights of rugs over the years - some 2nd hand ones too - and always came up with cleverly thought out justification for buying each one...)

Handy has a John Whitaker Lactic HW stable which is wonderful, and has a neck attachment (necks are easy to find). Very warm, had it 2 winters and not a problem. He'll be wearing it this year too :)

npage123 - We're in Cornwall right on the edge of a cliff (pretty much) so get all the sea wind.. it's nippy where they are and if i put her out in a mw she seems to get a bit chilly.. she doesn't seem to grow any coat at all (i usually clip her out fully to get rid of what little coat she has - usually for jumping or hunting purpose - i think it's probably affected her coat growth this year).

The HW she is in is about 300g i think.. and then i have her other HW which is more like 350/400g and then i have what i call her "snow suit" which is so heavy i struggle to throw it over her.. all keep her snug and i can always double rug with a fleece if she gets chilly with a hw on i suppose!! It's a sod of a circle, i don't want her to get cold and drop weight/condition if i put her in a mw but she won't grow coat unless in something a little lighter.. (generally if you keep her warm she does super well over winter and doesn't need any hard feed until jan/feb time - providing we have lots of grass available).

I have a weatherbeet belmont combo and love it, it's a 360g filling, and the lining almost polishes the coat so they are really shiney, no seam on the neck so no rubbing.
They do seem to come up a little on the long side so I would suggest going smaller rather than bigger size wise.

Ignore me I mis-read! I don't use stable rugs just T/Os. I don't see the point in taking off a nice warm T/O and putting on a cold stable rug that's been sitting around all day then doing the reverse in the morning. The PE trio is the only rug I use :)

I agree with mynutmeg - I have the Weatherbeeta Belmont Combo (as do two others on my yard) and we all love them.:) They don't slip, wear well, the neck stays 'up' (doesn't slide down and throttle him!) & are v toasty. I do think that going a size down wouldn't hurt too-mine is a little long and I got his usual size. Equestrian Clearance usually have them on offer. Wbeeta also do a Windsor combo, which looks lovely & I think is even warmer, weight wise.
