Can anyone recommend riding boots with toe protection

For my friend whose horse seems to step on her foot more than is usual. Also, I had heard from somewhere that boots with steel toes were more dangerous around horses cause the weight of a horse stepping on your foot could break the steel toe caps and press the broken steel into the foot- does anyone know if this really can happen. Thank you.

You have to get the toe cap to the correct strength, they are safety checked for equestrian use, a saddler would be better able to advise. If you have the wrong ones then yes, it can be worse, as weak toe caps will give way when a horse treads on them and press into your toes. Ouch!

I believe Equitector do riding boots, but I have never put any on.

I use Ariat short boots with a toe cap and gaiters for riding.

I also use Mountain Horse short boots with toecaps, with the elastic sides, for general yard work and with half chaps for general casual riding.

I have a pair of the Mountain Horse short boots with elasticated ankle. They are my second pair and although okay, the elastic has gone a bit baggy around the ankle, so they're not that comfy with jeans, but are okay with jods and half chaps to grip them in place. The first pair I had lasted years without any problems.

I use the Mountain Horse steel toe jodhpur boots and they are very comfy if a little heavy and have lasted years. They are up to the relevant British Standard apparently. Unless someone can provide conclusive evidence, I think that toe crushing thing is an old wives tale.
