In my boy? He was a bit ribby, no topline etc when we got him, we have only had him a few weeks.
People have commented on how he is putting on condition and looking better but I think because I see him every day I dont notice the changes as much.

A couple of when we first brought him home if you havent seen him:

Saturday: (excuse step fathers grin, he had just been riding my other horse who took off with him LOL, so was pleased to be on my safe superstar!)
Pic doesnt really show him off as that was only the third time my stepdad has been on a horse!

He looks as though not only has his topline improved but he has some condition to his belly ( and looks better for it too) and also on his shoulders.
He could well be filling out due to his age as well.
I know I saw some id's and crosses at an auction last September that were around 5/6 and they were very skinny

and looked like they needed building up.
It looks very much as though you are going the right way with him

Well he is 6 but has been out of work for 9 months, so we are going slowly with him. We have only had him a few weeks but he is up to 750kg now so is on the right track I think.

You could see and feel his spine a bit at first (think you can see it in top pic) but no longer, it helps that he can eat for England though!

Aw that's brill and I think the steady approach will be best as you are doing now as it seems to me from the way he looks that he could have been slighty overworked before you had him. Trouble is a lot of people are not very patient when it comes to horses and don't appreciate that many need to fill that frame they have grown to

I know I have witnessed it a lot in racing and sometimes it breaks my heart to see some gangly two year olds particularly fillies being overraced and then breaking down.

When we had my daughter's horse Mcfly in September last year ( bought from Leominster sales) he was a bit gangly. He came from a stud and I just wonder how much feed he actually got at grass as he has just blossomed. I wish I had taken his weight when we had him ( I may have somewhere lol) as he has filled out. It's not just fat though as although he has had little work he has good grazing ( bit poor at the mo due to weather) good hay and a small hard feed once a day too. He canters around the field a lot so I don't know if that has helped him too lol. But he has filled out particularly well on his shoulders and belly and by his breeding he should be a heavyweight cob and he was more like a light weight to medium when we got him.
He was 6 and will be 7 this year but I couldn't be happier with him. He may be very green but he has the right attitude and seems more laid back most of the time than my horse who is 15 lol.

he is looking good bernard. keep up the good work. As i said before it will be a gradual process especially as your neddie is a big fella but will be worth the wait and probably wont come really into his own till 8 onwards. Just enjoy bringing on slowly. did you find a trainer.

oh yes I can see a difference, he's starting to look good, keep taking the photos so you can see how much he improves

Yes Caz I think the ad lib haylege has really helped him as he didnt have much grass where he was.
