Can anyone settle an argument for me? Will my 5yo native widen at the chest or not???

He's weedy in the chest department. He's a connemara pony and his back end is slightly higher than his front end. I keep asking those more knowledgable than myself wether he will widen out or not (I'm talking about the space between his front legs here, not muscle) and noone seems able to give me any idea wether my weedy pony will stay weedy or not :(

The warmer the blood, the faster they grow, no? Or am I just being delusional .....

Opinions please!

may do. At 5 he won't be fully mature.

I have known narrow connies thought, so it depends if it's maturity or conformation!

Sorry misread and thought you meant muscle.
At 5 he has a while to broaden out because he wont be fully grown by that point. good luck

yes, it will mean that he hasn't stopped growing. So I'd expect the front end to go up to match the height of his back end. That doesn't 100% mean he'll widen. I expect he will, but as I said it does depend on his conformation.

I have a picture of my horse taken from the front at 4 yrs old, he is so scrawny and narrow and all legs. He stopped growing at about 5 ish but then seemed to fill out massively. He is now a very chunky middleweight. I bought him as I fancied something more athletic looking but hes seemed to have lost the lanky legs, deepened massively and is bigger all round. Even his breeder couldnt believe how he had matured. I think your pony will even out height wise and mature body wise too.

My 4 year old connie is the exact same! I expect him to widen out. He fits into my old skinny tb's rugs at the moment!

I've been told connies finish maturing around 8, so he's plenty of time yet :)

My Welsh D/Tb changed dramatically between 4 and 8, he looked really light until he started to mature. Now at 18 I'm still waiting for his brain to catch up....
