To be honest, and I'll get accused of being a fluffy bunny again, I think its rather mean to laugh.

There are a lot of people around with various learning difficulties, we deal with them all the time.

This poor person might have put a lot of time and effort into writing this. Some of the men we work with would take several hours to do it.

Feel sorry for the horse though

i know many people who have learning difficulties and dyslexia.

i also know that children are failing to learn basic literacy skills in school these days...:(

edited to say "many children" ;)

The guys we work with often never actually went to school, or if they did their learning difficulties were not picked up. I think schools have got better at identifying them these days. I know these problems are nothing new, there have always been people around without basic literacy and numeracy skills.

yes the older generation were often not supported in their learning. ;) and things are improving.

i think the main problem now though is down to modern technology... i cant understand half of what my Niece's and nephews write, as they use a strange txt language. i know that this creeps into the English classroom too...!

very few youngsters read books as far as i've known nowadays- but they can tell you all the pokemon under the sun...! we (my family and friends) were all avid readers, apart from my youngest brother who has serious dyslexia. Even my sister with mild dyslexia was and is an avid reader. (and is now a primary teacher!) i think its more a problem with society and the modern way of life than purely learning difficulties in a lot of cases. ;)

just my opinion. ;)

Even if your grasp of the written English language is poor, surely, you read your own text back and realise it doesn't make sense??

Think its quite difficult to understand how a person with learning difficulties think or how text and how it reads appears to them.

Personally I didn't notice any spelling mistakes, some didnt make sense and a few letters were missing but I hadn't any trouble reading it, even being dyslexic myself.

Is there any need to laugh at someone who is out to do best for their horse. Least they're not giving it away for free...

Have an 11 year old who is doing really well in her literacy, scores come back as excellent and she is a year or so above her age in marks, she is in mainstream school, does this differ from county to county then?

Yes, there is a lack of punctuation and some letters missing. So what? They aren't submitting a potential best selling novel here are they.
OP, it was written quite clearly in English, apart from a few letters missing, which could be typo. The title isn't really that relevant is it

Some people jump and grasp for any opportunity to put others down. Which says more about themselves than the person they have chosen to mock.

I personally had no problems reading the ad, with or with out full stops

Perhaps their first language is not English..? I have liveried at yards with some polish girls, etc. Could you write an advert in French for instance..??? No I doubt it very much. So if they are perhaps not British I'd say that's a pretty good effort inmy eyes..!!! Still a shame to sell a 20 year old though.

This is it. If you have dyslexia you cannot see the mistakes.. if you could you wouldn't be dyslexic. Simples!!

I really dislike the current prevalent attitude on here of poking fun at people, especially when they are unable to defend themselves. It shows a real small and petty mind plus a streak of real meanness.

I can't fault the content, they're being very honest. It is a nice looking horse, I hope they find it a great home.

There are people with learning difficulties and it is wrong to mock them; but there are also lots of kids (and adults) who either don't consider presentation and grammar important or are too lazy to do so.

To be honest I didn't have any problem reading the advert. As others have already said there could be any number of reasons for the way it was written. My daughter is dyslexic and knowing how much of a struggle it was for her, I get really cross when people make fun of spelling and grammar mistakes.

If people are able to own two horse they probably have someone who can help out , we may be dealing with an illiterate person, but I suspect they won't get many replies to this garble.
I suggest theytweak the ad:
Lovely 20 year old grey gelding looking for a good home for life, needs an experienced rider to get him going again, but after that he will be a good all rounder.

I am sure you do, but you would help her out with this ad, it starts off OK, then rambles.

It's really bugs me when people have such bad grammar!

A basic full stop or comma now and again would be a big help.

Also the seller seems to contradict themself a lot.

"Please time wasters or novices!"

Of course we would help one of our friends / relatives out. Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who dont have anyone. Often the kids who dont get the help they need come from families who either dont care or who have the same problems themselves.

My daughter has excellent literacy skills, far better than mine, she uses text English when speaking to her friends. But if she was writing something that matters she will put the effort in. I suspect in this persons case it was 'cant' not 'wont'

Yes of course I would help her out with something like this. She very often asks me how to spell something. BUT..she is very conscious of being dyslexic and does not like people knowing about it. She had a lot of problems at school because of her spelling, her teacher labelled her "thick and lazy" and ridiculed her in front of the other pupils and that has made her extremely self-conscious about her dyslexia. There are only one or two people that she would feel comfortable asking for help and if those people were not available then she would just do the best she could.

Well I'm a self admitted speech snob, both written and oral and if the objective of this add was to get people interested in her horse for me it would be a massive fail.

I don't buy into this argument that everyone who writes like that is Dyslexic or has learning difficulties it can be as basic as laziness.

Most people when placing an add have someone around them who can proof read it if necessary.

Seems like the add may be wasted money as many wouldn't bother ringing even if they aren't ' time waters '.

**Whispers that shouldn't it be "Breathe"??**, if you are going to knock people for bad grammar you might want to check your own?

Being dyslexic myself i find it a struggle some days, mainly trying to decide between words like Advice and Advise, Whether and Weather.

But if i was going to type a ad in the hope of selling/loaning a horse i would ask someone to proof read it.
