Can being too hot cause weight loss?

Yes

I read somewhere once that the Akhal Teke horses used to race used to be wrapped in felt (in the middle of the desert...) to make them sweat off any excess fat. Presumably so they'd be lean enough for racing?!
Edited to correct atrocious spelling!

yes, easily.

i have lunged several lardy asses in NZ's to drop weight...

its a quick way to get fatties slim...then the serious stuff of fittening starts.

I am going to query this???lol!!
Now when we sweat from working,we would lose weight due to working(providing ya didnt eat too much, lol),the lost fluid from sweat is replaced when we drink, therefore weight from sweat lost is replaced(if we didnt drink enough to replace sweat lost we would dehydrate??!!Same goes for when we get too hot in clothes,we sweat, which in turn makes us thirsty so we drink more,so putting fluids back in means nothing lost???

I would go with hadfos on this one. Compare it to a jockey sweating before a race, it is water that is lost through dehydration, not fat.
Yes there is weight loss but it is due to the water loss in the body and as soon as it is replaced, it goes back on.

Isn't it??!!

Absolutely it could. I hate seeing horses overrugged and too warm. They can always shiver to warm up but can't regulate themselves to get their temperature down if swaddled with too many or too heavy rugs.

i would say yes to these one aswell you can make your horsew very poorly by them being to hot. it is better to have a cold horse than a hot horse!
