Looking through schedule for this summers big show - its an agri show but pretty big round here.
Going to do the show cob class and wondered if we would look out of place in a hunter class?
Cob is LW 15hh, coloured - shown hogged and legs clipped out.

Also can someone explain if i would need to differ my individual shows for these classes or could do the judges want to see similar in both classes?

First proper showing classes under saddle for us :o

Thanks

No, you cant take a cob in a hunter class. Isn't there a ridden coloured to do as well as the cob class.

If its a decent show, you wont have to do an individual show in either. They will have a ride judge. Get your cob used to different people riding, and the different weights. One or two of the male ride judges around here are pretty heavy.

Nothing to stop you entering for the experience if you want to get him going in the ring, but expect the judge to disregard you in terms of type. I'd be more tempted to show him locally at a few low-key shows first :)

Sorry, but are you sure. Its usually in the schedule at these shows. I'm making this up as I dont have one but something like "must be shown plaited". You would certainly get away with a cob if it was plaited, but the OP states the horse is hogged.

I have seen people being asked to leave the ring for missing the rules on turnout completely, eg traditional or plaited in a show cob class, even at local level.

I would be very embarrassed if asked to leave the ring so wouldn't take the chance.

To be pedantic you merely prove that indeed anyone CAN enter, ie fill in the form and hand over the dosh, whether they will be asked to leave the ring because of incorrect turnout or type is another matter.

I have shown my l/w cob in WH and small ridden hunter classes, and have had considerable sucess BUT only at local level.

I wouldn't show at any higher level in either classes as he is hogged and at only 15hh would look out of place against the 'proper' hunters.

Theoretically you could enter, but doubt your chances. At the larger shows the judges usually rides so you would not need to do an individual show, but have one prepared just in case. The only excecption may be a 'coloured' class if allowing mixed heights, as the judge is unlikely to ride the ponies.

Good luck and have fun!

No I'd go for the coloured class if any other, the judge would be most likely to either put you bottom of send you out of the class unfortunately. Local level mabye accepted but not higher up.

LOL, yes you could be right.

However when do you actually start competing. When you fill in the form and hand over lots of money. Or when the judge actually looks at the class for the first time. The steward could have kicked you out before you get to the point of actually competing. :D :D

Theres a Coloured/Spotted Horse & Pony but shes not exactly well marked - more of a roaning on her colored bits than a solid color and she has a fair bit of white on her. Inhand we never tend to do very well in the colored classes.
Will take her in the colored anyway for the experience :)
Will give the hunter class a misss - too embarrasing to be asked to leave the ring!!
Yes the judge does ride in this show i believe.
She has a smart WH saddle and a lovely hunter bridle, a brown sheepskin discreet numnah.
Me - a green tweed jacket, navy blue flesh hat, long black boots, beige jods (or would the yellower shade (not the bright yellow canary but a nicer shade) be better? dark brown gloves, brown show cane, green with little white spots tie, cream shirt......does that sound okay?

Realistically speaking, you should be able to do both cob and hunter classes, but, if you go to a but show, no matter how brilliant and handsome he is, you will possibly get negative comments. At 15hh, he will be very small compared to the others even as a small hunter, they are well up to height (probably som are over but that is for different thread) - runs for cover.

QUOTE]

You may find she does much better in the ridden than in hand.

Whether they are supposed to or not, in hand classes seem to take colour and markings as a large part of the mark.

At a show with good judges, the ridden should be judged on the horse and not colour and markings. However a well marked horse does make the overall picture look better.
