She fell going into the barn a few days ago, but appeared fine.
Today she was hopping, and couldn't bear weight on her left hind leg.
Vet came out really quickly for us and she appears to have cut her leg when she fell, right on her heel. This got infected and she's got a really bad infection that's spread right up her canon

The vet cleaned it all out, so she's now got a hole in her foot

and gave her antibiotics and antiinflamatories (sp)
She's got to be kept in (not box rest, just in so it's clean) and given antibiotics for 4 days, then he'll reassess her.
We're really worrie d though as she's 27, and has arthritus and gets sore joints in her other hind leg anyway. So please can she have some vibes that the infection doesn't spread any further?

I took some pics today, they don't really show how swollen it is

i guess thats not much help. The anti b's will help a lot i'm sure. Is she eating them okay? my horse was on them the other week and she hated them!!!

If she is an apple fan maybe mix powder with sweet apple sauce and syringe in
My horse is awful at eating powders--he smells them straight away

Good luck and fingers crossed for Connie that is a 'filled leg!! She has a good 'baby' sitter he seems to get on with everyone and may encourage her to eat

i'm not there until next sunday but she's used to eating medicine so hopefully we won't have a problem.
thanks, it certainly is!
well, sil was keeping her compay, she wasn't too keen on staying in but we'll swap them all round so they take turns keeping her company
