Can gastric ulcers cause coughing?

If it was a person, they would have reflux, and this acid would reach the back of the throat and irritate it, causing coughing (leading to a symptom the patient may not necessarily associate with ulcers), but I don't think horses get reflux, same reason why they don't vomit I assume.

Curious! You should sneakily ask the vet next time you're in touch, see if there's something weird and wonderful. (Probably won't be haha)

It is odd. Maybe he somehow found a little relief or tried seeking relief that way.

This is likely, it's amazing how animals find ways of alleviating symptoms by their own ways and means, humans included. Could have been the tensing of abdominal muscles during the cough made it better for a bit, so he coughed lots.

Good suggestion. I always cough when I get heart palpatations as it puts a stop to them. So maybe the vibtation helps the painand this why he's been coughin?
