I don't know if right place to post but currently I'm having problems entering my field with my 3 year old TB due to another mare.

First time I went to the end field she was fine for me to let her in. On the way out of the field in the early evening (mine is stabled at night as under weight at the moment) she started galloping up the field and started rearing and trying to come through the electric fence.

In the end someone had to open the gate and let me out as no way I could of got to the gate to open it.

This morning I turned out my youngster as normal and again it happened. Same events but in the field on the other side which I thought would be safer. Mine reared as the other one was rearing and landed straight on my leg.

The other mare does have a 2 year old in the field with her also.

This also happens in the stables as they are next to each over. My horse is hiding at the back of her stable and is becoming very scared of any other horses.

I'm going to start lunging her to break her next month once she's gained weight. She was such a sweet heart and easy to handle until this mare started on her. She's not in season and has no problems. I'm so scared this is going to affect the way she is and her calm personality. With all the places I've worked in racing and event yards I've never seen this sort of bad behaviour.

Even to the point if in stable my horse cannot have its head out of the stable as she's attacking her trying to bite her.

Please help xx

Personally, I wouldnt allow the other horse anywhere near me when im in the field. Take a lunge whip, and keep it out of whacking distance. Maybe purchase a grill for the stable door, to make your horse feel safer as no other horse can stick their head into her stable. If there is a grill in between their stables I would block it off to break eye contact. Your mare shouldnt feel intimidated in her own space. Could you also pin a stable top door open to block eyesight between the stables? Then your mare could have her head out without getting bitten.

I'm a bit confused - do you mean another horse is attacking yours? How many horses are there and are they all in the same field?

When they are all out, is it fine? Or does the other mare still go after yours?

What are their routines? All of them... Not just your horse.

Carry a long whip and flick the aggressive horse in the chest if it threatens you as that's extremely dangerous behaviour. I would use a schooling whip rather than lunge, personally - in case you need it quickly and it gets tangled in a fence or something.

However, it's ultimately that horse's owner that needs to work with her if she's aggressive...

Its separate fields. My horses routine is that I turn her out about 830 after feet and making sure she's ok. The other horse are out over night and only get brought in to ride or unless the weather is really bad. The other mare won't walk passed my stable with out trying to rear or trying to put her head in to bite her.

The other horse is attacking Mine. Waited until my partner was home too go and bring her in tonight so I wasn't on my own dealing with it, yes later than she is used to but I cannot walk properly after this morning. He shouted at her and waved his hands to get her back and caught her before she started properly.

Ok that worked for one evening but it's a quiet yard and I don't always have company turning out and bringing in.

I'll take a whip with me tomorrow just don't want to scare my mare any more with all of this.

Been so lost with all of this.
