When I first met my pony he was in a straw stable with hay, he had a green blob in each eye...

When I took ownership of him and moved yards his eyes cleared up as he is now out 24/7..
He does have the odd tear run down his face..
Dry hay makes him cough.!!

Yesterday we moved them to a different field through lack of grass..
Realised flies are worse there, so put on a fly mask halfway through day..
Gave them soaked hay as still not much grass..
Field is lined with oak tree's..

This morning I go down to find bright green 'custard' pouring out of his eyes, bathed them with cold tea, but still poured out. Left him in yard with access to stables, alot better this afternoon..Have put some chloramphenicol drops in, mask on and put him in field..
If he is the same tommorrow I WILL call the vet!!, but does anyone know if it could be the flies (infection?), the hay(allergy) or possibly the oak trees?(allergy?)
AARRGGHHH!!!!!!

Thank you....:(

I would assume its down to the flies, but oak trees, especially acorns are poisonous to horses, I would be fencing all around the perimeter leaving a good gap between the horses and the trees

Yes we have fencing around the drop of acorns, and today they are in the next field with no oak trees, just wondered if they were pollenating(is that even a word?) at the mo..

To be honest, you're guess is probably as good as mine or anyone else's. it could be any number of things. If it were me, I'd just keep doing what you are doing, fly mask, bathing the eye, and perhaps consult with vet for some eye drops if it isn't gone within 48 hrs or sooner depending on severity of the issue. If its not too bad, and it clears up quickly, I would consider calling out the vet if it reoccurs.
