Can hoof abscesses be affected by location?

My horse has had 3 absesses in 3 different feet in the space of 2 years and each of these times it has happened just after I took her on holiday to my sisters stable 12 miles away from where she usually lives.
She has never had any problems with them in the past and has been born and bred on the farm where she usually stays. She is unshod and her feet are in fairly good condition although she does get a recurring vertical crack on her NF. She is highland X and gets fat on thin air so she gets a little sugarbeet, coursemix, formula4feet and seaweed supplement but only once daily in winter or a little after excercise. She lives out 24/7. I also spray iodine on the crack regularly too on advice from farrier.
The ground at my sisters is fairly similar (in fact less boggy!) and she keeps another 4 horses none of whom have ever had an abscess while there and only 2 of them are shod. She usually has a more strictly controlled grass intake while there but since she is normally quite overweight I can't think that could be responsible?
Each of the 3 times she has been there she has developed an abscess within a couple of weeks, first twice I thought it must be coincidence but now we are on the third in a row I am starting to think there has to be a reason. Can anyone tell me if location can be linked to abscesses and why that might be?

I've seen a fair few comments about diet and soil type etc. Any help gratefully recieved.

Yes,I think location can contribute. I have read that a deficiency in certain minerals(levels vary throughout the country and from field to field) can increase susceptability to hoof problems. I feel that a longer spell on deficient grazing would be needed, but I used to work at a yard that rented a field every summer......we called it 'pus in the foot field'! So I have experienced sudden cases in certain places.

Is you sugar beet un mollassed?
I would consider removing the coarsemix and the seaweed and replacing them with a balanced mineral supplement.

I would second that if she lives on thin air Ditch the coarse mix. diet does sound potentially high in sugars.

Use unmollased sugar beat or fast fibre and a vit and min suppliment or balancer.

Abcesses can also b caused by excess sugars in diet from lush grass especially In combination with a mix hard feed. Can b a sign of lami.

If she is already over weight she may b more prone to.lami or.metabolic issues. Also stress of moving can cause temp metabolic issues leading to lami and abcess.

Hope gets sorted soon for u. X
