u might remember abby had some horrible looking scabs come up on her legs a while ago?? well it has happened again after she was wearing a set of neoprene boots and u can see exactly where they were sitting.... even down to the leather brushing pad bit which hasn't been affected as badly. the last time this happend she had also had boots on with some neoprene in them...... could she be allergic??? vet thinks this is a possibility but i never knew they could be allergic to it :S ( what a dumbass not even thinkin of it)

luckily its healing well

never 100% confirmed bit pretty sure my horse is. She is fine with bandages but boots are pretty much a no go, although the stretch and flex ones are a little better than others.

she never had that reaction after wearing any of my other boots but their all fleece lined, so i assume that could well be the problem. i put them in the bin anyway lol!!

Yes, they can be allergic. I saw a horse the other day with scabs and white hair growing back in the shape of a boot. Caused by wearing neoprene boots for a few hours at a show.

I googled neoprene allergy and it seems to be very common amongst divers etc with neoprene wet suits so no reason why horses shouldn't be allergic too. Neoprene can also be very sweaty which can cause skin irritation, hair loss etc

I certainly think mine is. After wearing a pair of new medicine boots, his legs swelled and he had lymphaginitis-type symptoms with fluid breaking through the skin. After diarhetics (spelling?) from vet all ok, but you could see the exact lines of the boots in his affected fur. Vet at the time couldn't believe it would be a result of the neoprene boots, but the lines on his legs suggested so to me. He couldn't tolerate wearing any boots afterwards so never bothered with any since!
