i was going to make some birthday treats for my horse but i couldnt find any normal oats apart from massive bags at the feed store so will porridge oats be okay? Don't want to poison him :D

Oats is oats, porridge oats are fine but be careful with the quantities you use if he isn't used to oats generally.

Yes!

My friend found his elderly father feeding porridge oats to his horses, he realised that his dad's Alzheimers had really taken hold, so the old guy went off to live in a home. The horses were fine, the old guy missed his horses. So very sad.

Old cob is quite insistent about 'sharing' any flapjack or cereal bars with me!

When I was a child my mum used to feel sorry for my pet rabbits on really cold mornings and give them a spoonful of warm porridge made in the Scottish way with only water and a small pinch of salt.
