My sweet itch pony is coming along very well, he doesn't rub his tail now and treating his pinworms has obviously helped there. He still tries to rub his ears with his hooves though. His hair has all grown back and is pure white but the hair inside his ears is yellowy so I'm wondering if he could have ear mites

I am happy to call the vet if needed but because of the sweet itch I don't want it to sound like I am questioning their diagnosis so wondered if anyone on here is able to help in the first instance

Yes they can, the foresters here get them all the time. Nasty little beggars. Their ears go all crusty and eventually start bleeding :( We treat them with a fly repellent cream.

Not only mites - but some types of flies actually bite just inside the ear leaving an crusty itchy scab.

Your could try with a fly repellant - we use citronella base if the skin is broken. If not joy then get the vet back for another look.

My mum's section D a few years back started head shaking, after speaking to the vet he had an injection that helped him. She said it sounded like ear mites to her, they could scrap test his ears, but it didn't seem worth it with everything we were telling her. Think the injection costs about £12-15.
