my mare walked upto me as she usually does to be caught for riding but i cant ride my mare til i get saddle done, so took my cob out first time in ages (other people have been exercising him) my mare gave me such a disgruntled look and when i was trying to get cob through gate she went between me and him. now is she jealous??

Jacob does i can remember once i was looking after him, pippa and eska and i was riding little pippa while blackhawk was on jasper an jacob saw me riding her and went nuts tearing around the feild until i got off her.
And if you try turn out or bring a horse in before him he goes nuts too.

Judging by the pain in my wrist following a kick from Shetland pony who dared approach me while I was cleaning my horse's leg (He reached over me and bit her so she retaliated and I got in the way!) then YES, the y do get jealous/ possessive!

My horse is full of his own importance and in the two plus years I have had him, other horses are not allowed near me on his time.

If he is pre-occupied eating, etc then I can speak to others but he will pretty much always try and chase off any horse or pony that approaches me if he's paying attention.

Always been ok when I have shared grazing, etc but now that I am on my own and have to care for two of them, it can be a bit of a challenge!

His motto is most definitely- "GET YOUR OWN MUM!!!"

Ellie gets jealous if Chad is getting a fuss off me and she wants one. She marches over, ears back, tail swishing and chases him away from me. She then comes and sticks her head under my hand to get me to stroke her

I got bowled over in the field by my highland, just because I was paying attention to another pony. He tried to chase the other pony away and just caught me with his shoulder. He came back to see if I was ok.

No they don't get jealous, they just have a pecking order and if they think they should be allowed near you over another horse or they think they should protect you from another horse they act out. They don't get jealous like this is my mum you can't speak to her, they are horse's after all not people!

Definately, I was chatting and making a fuss of one of the other horses in the George's barn and George started whinnying and kicked the door! I was quite chuffed!!

Oh yes, if I say hello to another horse in the field, Ralph really gets the hump and usually charges at it, ears flat back

yes, they do get jealous, definitely. the more intelligent the individual, the more they display this kind of behaviour.
there was an article (in The Times i think it was) a few months ago where scientists had studied dogs and cats and proved (no idea how) that they feel different emotions, including jealousy.

The Moose got the right royal hump when my loan pony arrived on the yard and i spent so much time with him. The first time I rode out of the yard on him, apparently she yelled her head off and threw herself about in her stable (she's on box rest).

Yes, my horse is jealous of other horses and other animals. He puts his ears back and snaps his teeth if I pay attention to another horse.

Yep, was bringing my horse back to the stable the other night after a ride and the gelding next to him (who he is good friends with) nuzzled my arm and he lost it and barged the door and stuck his head in with teeth out sending the poor boy running back in his stable.

He was clearly informed that I am not one of his "mares", at this time of year he starts to believe he is a stallion again so we need to get this VERY straight!! He's fine if I approach the other horse myself, which I find a bit odd.
