Can I ask a stupid question....?

So before I go ringing secretaries and making myself sound like an idiot.... is new years day a day that lots of hunts are out?

This may sound like a stupid question, but although I support hunting I don't know much about it, but if I can find any local hunts out on new years day the husband and I would like to go on foot.

Also, does anyone know of any hunts that are out near Cambridge on new years day? (PM me if you prefer) Don't mind if it's drag / fox / harriers etc, just want to have a nice day out in the countryside!

NYD this year falls on the Sabbath so harriers/foxhounds/beagles will be going on the 2nd which is the Monday and a Bank Holiday. Bloodhound/Drag packs I think do meet on a Sunday so they would be your best bet if you can't go Monday. Can't help with the area sorry!

Most fox hound packs around here are hunting NYE as NYD falls on a sunday.

If you google the MFH website it lists all packs by area, with contact details.

Cambridge University have a Drag hounds pack, or did. I went out with them a couple of seasons ago and had a very good day. You'll find them with Google.

Ooh, just looked up cambs uni drag hounds and they are out, so onto another question - if we are going on foot do we just turn up or should you ring first? Website says no need to ring if riding so is that the same for going on foot? And do all hunts welcome foot followers or are we a nuisance?!

I would give them a call to be polite and so you aren't shunned at the meet! Drag hunt however should not be bothered about foot followers but it is polite to phone anyway.
