I have had my old pony's very lovely Ideal WH saddle sitting in a cupboard at home since he passed so thought I'd dig it out and see if it would fit Buzz for use in WH comps. I thought that if it vaguely had a chance of fitting I'd take it to the saddler to get properly fitted but just as a baseline, what do you think? I'm not brilliant at saddle fitting hence asking! Thanks :)

Yes think i should've put the girth on and got some photos, i'll try sitting on it next weekend (too dark when i'm there in the evenings for decent photos!)

Excellent, i have a Nuumed numnah with shims (front and back, have just the backs in for my current saddle) that i might try underneath as well if that would help to get a feel for the correct fit?

Can't see under the flaps to see if it's bridging or not, it's not that wide actually but only my opinion as I think a lot of saddles are too narrow. Not the best photos to see but he may have some muscle to develop yet at the whither. I think you need a good saddler to balance and reflock it - remember you can use shims and pads.

Almost certainly not too wide, there is a kink in the panel below the tree points on the nearside but I think that's a distortion rather than the tree points coming off the horse (which is what happens when a saddle is too wide). It has very thin panels which may not offer enough scope for flocking, front or back (shallow, rounded gussets at the back) but the basic tree shape etc is good. Choice of girth straps may be important, a point strap is usually helpful on these shapes.

Yes it has been squashed into a cupboard for the last year so I need to let it get back into it's proper shape. Will try with shims underneath and have a look how that goes but I will bare this in mind, I had the same situation with his current saddle, it didn't have enough room for extra flocking so have the shims
