and want to buy some transport for pony. Can I buy a decent small lorry for trailer money, say £2.5-£3K??

I know a trailer would make more sense to me - I already have a 4x4 and I will be probably only use it once a week but I know pony travels better in a lorry.

If you think I can buy something decent for this amount can you please post links to these adverts, even if the lorry is sold because it will give me some idea what to look for.

BTW pony is only 14HH so would consider 'pony' lorry though it would be nice to have something bigger for friends

depends if you have sumone on hand to fix it should things go wrong....we had an old bedford TK which was great for us for 10 years, engine was sound, and when we needed any welding done on the chassis, my dad was around to sort it so it didnt cost us! but when dad buggered off, we were a bit stuck, coz it was costing us £300 a year just to have minor things patched up. so we sold it for £900, absolute bargain, and 3 years later its still on the road! we had to pay out £9000 to get something of similar size and reliability; even when we were looking at the VW LT50s and other small lorries, you wouldnt find anything for much less than £8000. we have now downsized to a new ifor trailer, which we v pleased with!

No........

Well, actually if you are talking about Equitrek trailers (££££) then you probably could trade it in for a lorry that ran well.......

we paid £1200 for our old Ford D series 7.5 tonne lorry off eBay.

But I echo what MizElz says - unless you have a tame mechanic it can be expensive in up keep - luckily OH is a tame-ish mechanic

i paid under 2k for my lorry, 1983 mercedes never had anything wrong with it, never failed to start, sat for 6 months and started first time. had it mechanicaly checked nothing wrong with it, it sails through its plateing every time, and so far its cost me about £65 a service (reccomended once a year but we have it twice a year

Looks like there are bargains out there - I just need to find them! My OH's friend is a mechanic so looks like I might have to talk to him nicely..... I am petrified of buying a heap of junk! The Ford Transit ones seem to be the most popular for sale - is this good or bad - I'm guessing parts wouldn't be too expensive?? Anyone got one a Trannie?
Thanks for replies everyone - I appreciate it

I think some of the bigger lorrys are cheaper than the smaller ones - my 14hh pony and mini shetlands could have a party in the back lol.
I'm still convincing OH that lorry is the way to go - he has visions of a 40ft lorry blocking out the sunlight on the driveway

Another question, what do people pay for storage of trailer/small lorry/big lorry generally??
