Can I change my Welsh D's name in his passport?

Right, un-fortunately my boys dam died before he could be registered, so he currently has a veteran horse society passport.

His name in the passport is "Llynllys Sians Delightfully Prince", which I must admit I am not a fan of. I have no intention of registering him as a part bred.

SO my question is, is it possible to change his passported name? His stable name was Prince, it's now Oakley. Llynllys I presume is the breeders prefix? But I can't find any details on it, so I'm not sure if it's a registered prefix (does that make sense, I don't know a lot about all this lol). He's 3 in April, and I have absolutely no intention of selling him, he is to be my main horse for the next 20 years (hopefully!) and i'm not interested in showing affiliated, only locally occasionally.

I mainly want to show jump, dressage etc and "delightfully Prince" is er.... not great is it?

Any help/opinions greatfully received! (I'm not superstitious either ;))
 
Im sure you can't change the passport name but I'm sure someone will correct me. Personally I like the name Prince (its a bit cliché isn't it!) but Oakley just makes me think sunglasses, lol :o
 
I think you are but as I say I stand corrected. Try not to think of it, lol ... you have his stable name and that's what you call him most. I don't dislike my TB's racing name I find it more amusing (Flying Gazebo) because I know how he got the name is its very funny and personal but I still have a bit of an issue with his stable name and often call him his previous, previous stable name as I know the previous, previous owner (if that makes sense?) and that owner always asks how Sid is and not how Gizmo is :p I tend not to use his name often, he has more nicknames than I don't know what but for some reason I cant bring myself to change it so its stuck with Gizmo which does make me cringe a little when I tell people what my big 16.3 dark bay thoroughbred is called :o, lol .... :eek:
 
Some agencies will let you change the name, at a price, I have no idea about the veteran society but it may be possible as it is not a breed society, I find it odd that he could not be properly registered as a Welsh Cob, there must be others that lost a mare yet the foal was fully registered, DNA testing is available to confirm and the stallion cert would still be valid.

I agree about Delightfully Prince, what a mouthful, filling in entry forms will be a nightmare.

I wanted to change my Welshies name as I think it's awful! I asked the Welsh Pony & Cob society and they said as he was listed as a stallion until I got him (old owners didn't let society know he was gelded at 1) it was not possible. This implies it would have been Ok if he was a gelding from a youngster though and couldn't have any offspring. I would definitely e-mail the Veteran society and ask!

Also if you are planning on just doing unaffiliated shows you can call him what you want on the form! It's only affiliated you need to use the passported name)

That is his owner, so it is a registered prefix, I may look into registering him then.

The WP&CS used to have a section for ponies that were not fully able to be registered, at one time they were fs, now I think there is a section for the odd coloured ponies and others that are not eligible, as a gelding they may with evidence let him in, you could probably tweak the name keeping the prefix but altering the rest.
