As many of you know my little lad has had x-rays and nerve blocks and has been diagnosed with "soft tissue damage to the structrues of the hoof" - so read into that what you will - me being mega negative think it is a tear to the DDFT - but we wont know unless i pay for a scan.

Right - he has egg bar shoes on - vet recomended
He is on a huge shavings bed with rubber matting ordered for next weekend
I have brought him the NAF Five Star Superflex
I have pinched a pair of magnetic boots - so he has had them on for an hour today
I have also got some vit b - red cell for stressed horses/laminitics and gave him 5ml of this
He is getting a mix of soaked hay, dry hay and a haylage alternative
He is getting 5 small feeds a day
Apart from being shod he has not left his box since he got back from the vets, not even for mucking out
I have arranged a paddock for him when he comes off box rest
He has a mobility lickit
and i am hiding carrots in his hay

I have written off this summer and really do not expect him to be working until the autum - if i am lucky

any suggestions?

Gingerwitch, you are doing more than enough, you are going to have to stand back a little, having the summer off, will help him and maybe help you to relax a little, do some of the jobs you've always ment to do but never had the time, enjoy your other horses etc:-:cool:

I am in the same position as you. My horse had nerve blocks/xrays/ultrasound and the vet has said it looks like collateral ligament damage but she needs an MRI to confirm the extent of the damage. She has many exclusions on my insurance policy and they still haven't yet agreed to pay for the nerve blocks and xrays she had, so the chances of them paying for the MRI are not likely.

I have done the opposite to you and just turned my horse away in a field, barefoot. I am prepared to give her as long as it takes but I couldn't face more box rest for her as before this she had fractured her cannon bone and had been on box rest for a long time.

Its so stressful to know what to do for the best, especially when you don't have a firm diagnosis.

I am going to enjoy the summer and a bit more time to myself and then hopefully come the winter or next year I'll be able to get back on board!

Amy_08 I am really really sorry to hear your news - and i hope everything works out well for you.

I hate the waiting game - I am bad enough over nice things i.e. Christmas etc but when you have a poor little mites future in your hands I get super worried - think i need to go to the docs for a calmer -never mind the horse !
