As most of you know, I havent ridden for well over 18mths now and prior to that was only a novice anyway (my horse was far too good for me so he went showing with my son and a showing jockey) anyway.... I cant tell you why the bottle went nothing happened to me i just completely lost all confidence and started tensing everytime i got on either of my boys ( i had 2 at the time).
Anyway I have a new boy Ed i will never be able to ride him as he is too small (bought purely for the showring) however I have got the urge to give it another go, but dont know if and when the time came i would dare. I used to love just going out for a leisurely hack and a gallop up the hills. Can i and how do i get back into it. My friend who has all the show horses has said i can have a go on one of hers (obviously not her prized show horses) i just dont know if i dare!!
As anyone else ever been through a similar situation? I dont want to look silly or feel silly and really wish i had a reason to be feeling like this at all.

Of course you can do it!I would find a good instructor (or someone who gives you confidence) a good steady neddy and have a few lessons get back the feel and just take it slow and enjoy it! Let us know how u get on

I would strike while the iron is hot so to speak! If you feel the urge, go for it ? Has your friend got something safe and sensible that you can jump on ? If you don't feel happy once onboard then try again when you feel up to it! Good luck!

She has a young welsh mare, i personally feel i'm too big for her as she is only 14.2 i'm not fat i am just tall and weigh heavy in horsey terms i would probably be an ID. I thought of going to the riding school where i started riding 5 years ago, but then i was like a teenager with all the bottle but no idea and the instructor used to push me and push me so realistically i dont think that would be any good. I think i'll go to sarahs tomorrow and have a chat with her see what she thinks! She has never seen me ride as i went to her a year ago when i had already stopped riding

Go for it. I didn't ride for nearly 20 years and then when I started again managed to fall off quite badly which threw my nerve completely. It took me another year to get back on again. I now have occasional lessons and enjoy the odd hack. Come the new year I want to do more. I know I will never be more than a happy hacker with all four feet carefully on the ground but I really enjoy it.

Yes, book a lesson, explain you're nervous and want to take things at your own pace. I lost my confidence a few years back, like you for no real apparent reason. I booked a lesson and was in tears even before I'd got on board. I did and I just had a little walk, trot, canter around the arena all at my own speed. Afterwards I was on such a high, the best bit was when the instructor said considering the wreck that I had been before I got on I could actually ride nicely.

You never know you might enjoy it!! Good luck
