Produce an unbacked pony in time for GYS in July? EEEk.............. we haven't rushed because we didn't have a jockey, we now have a brilliant little rider and so want to take him to GYS (I also want to win the class!!!). I would hope to get him out to smaller local shows before this and a smaller county one too. He is experienced in the ring in hand and so I'm not really worried about him reacting to this. I'm going to start long reining this weekend but am panicking it is too short a timescale so any reassurance will be very welcome! I have 8 ponies to start this summer and the enormity of the task is beginning to sink in!

From the sounds of it if he's been out and about in hand then it 's all down to his temperament and the ability of the trainer and rider and should be possible. I'd go with little and often and be realistic about how he is at each stage and your chances of getting him to the GYS. If he's really good but there's a hiccup then its worth sitting this one out and concentrating on getting him well started. IMHO
