The geldings in particular are very hairy and sweating even with light work. One of my boys was sweating in the field that warm weekend we had!

I'd like to have bibs or aprons done on them but not have to fanny about with rugging.

Can they remain rugosas if only a small clip?

They have access to lots of grazing and one in particular is a very good doer. I'm not sure I will bother with a second clip depending on how they go.

I'm new to clipping so please enlighten me.

Gypsy has his neck and shoulders clipped (only because that's the most we can do without being sedated!! Tickles his tum too much :p ) and we leave him rugless, it's just the same as rugging a clipped horse if you think about it? Just their neck left open.
:)

My (TB) horse is fully clipped out and has been out completely rugless during the day in the hot weather we've had lately. He was getting sweaty in just a rain sheet.

Its fine, you just have to keep and eye on them and rug as appropriate if the temp drops or it starts raining.
