I passed my test april 99 can anyone tell me if i can drive a lorry or do i have to take my test. Half the people i have asked has said yes the other have said no!!!!! someone please help. thanks liana xx

No, You would have had to pass your driving test before 97 to drive 7.5 you can drive up to

You will need to take a test to be able to tow a trailer I think, as the licence all changed at the same time.

Yep, you need to pass another test to tow a trailer or drive over 3.5 - remember that a 3.5 tonne lorry weighs more when loaded too so you wouldn't be able to drive a 3.5 loaded - as far as I'm aware....

Have you looked at your licence? The groups are quite clearly marked.

I'm afraid that as you passed your test after 1997 then you need to take a test for 7.5 ton lorries & for trailers.

On my photocard is the groups the one on the botton? if so it B,B1, f,k,p on my paper bit it says provisional entitlement A, BE , GH with loads of numbers next to them xx so what do they mean?

Nope if passed after 1997, then you can only drive a 3.5t lorry. Hence their sudden rise in popularity!

3.5 tonne is the maximum gross weight, so that is the loaded weight - the vehicle is only 1 1/2 - 2 tonnes unladen, if the vehicle weighed more than 3.5 tonnes it would be overweight, which is another offence altogether in addition to not being licenced for that weight
