I rode 2-3 times a week, mostly hacking for 45 min, for most of the summer holidays (with 2 x 1 week break). He's 14 and part cob, living out. My daughter is desperate to go hunting - her 20 year old connemara is pretty fit after doing senior camp, PC events and hacking out with me. Is it possible to get my horse fit enough and how - no hills. Any advice please.

Long steady hacking every day, periods of trotting and walking, give a few canters during the last week to clear the old pipes; hack for as long as you can, not just half hour; if you can't do at least an hour do some lunging too at steady trot.
I wouldn't normally advocate this short a prep as this but as half fit anyway it shouldn't do any harm. Check legs after and before each exercise that they are cool. You will probably need to clip too even if it's only a bib and stomach to take the worse off else he'll be a sweaty mess that takes forever to dry off.
