Can I get my head around dressage

Why can i not get my head around dressage. Have done numeorus tests in past and always forget where the walk is.

Bought a new boy as a happy hacker 18 months ago and he would be brill has a dressage horse(proved himself before i bought him) but I am useless at dressage, have asked a few people to take him in for me but they are busy with their own horses (understandable).

Can I ever get my head around it, must admit for me its people watching me and i get stressed. Can i ever get over the stressy bit and do my horse proud.
 
could you ask someone to call the test out to you while our doing it? you don't have to worry about forgetting it then.

This is what a few friends and i did last year for my first dressage test, will do it again this year if i do dressage.
 
Why don't you start with a walk trot test and ask someone to call for you.

Also maybe take him out with the thought you are not going to compete, just to get you both out to get used to the environment and riding the test. Also to get feed back from the judge.
 
go somewhere and be first on. there will only be a few people in warm up and they dont watch you they concentrating on their own horse. First thing sunday mornings most ppl dont want first on!
Dont get stressed, treat it like a hack between markers. Its not worth worrying about, you arent competing against anyone else - you are competing against yourself and what you are capable of - its merely the judge commenting on where you are in your training of your horse, they usually put encouraging comments and can only write what they see on the day - its never personal.
And to be honest - if you really dont want to do it - DONT. The horse isnt going to be in field thinking why isnt my owner taking me to dressage - as long as happy, well fed and loved he will be happy. So do whatever you are happy with. .......... Anyways bach rescue remedy usually works too!!!!
 
That's why its called Stressage!

Take a friend to call for you if you want to do it yourself or even pay your trainer to come along to call for you.

or

Pay your instructor/trainer to ride the test for you!
