I make waterproof synthetic tack, I've done a few bits and bobs with hi viz material (bridle linings and dog collars mostly) but my supplier has got in more width choices and I am tempted by making some bridles completely out of hi viz material.

The bridles will be made from biothane (which is the same as Zilco material for those who know what that's like), they will be waterproof, and easy clean (run under a tap or wipe with a damp sponge) and the hi viz colours I can get are yellow, pink and orange. I can get the orange with reflective stripe as well.

Do you think these would be something people would be interested in? (aimed mostly at people hacking out over winter, and with the horrible accident that happened locally recently I'd like to help at making people and their horses as visible as possible)
I'm thinking of breastplates and reins as well to make horses extra visible.

I'd buy a set absolutely, prob a mix match of bridle and breastplate. Always nice to have a bridle to pop on to go out hacking as it stops your leather having to get all wet etc.
Wouldn't want to pay a huge amount though...

This.

Would certainly be interested in them but wouldn't want to pay much. Like the reflective strips idea too.

I probably would too actually, would be useful to have a bridle that I didn't have to worry about getting wet, although I might not want the whole thing his vis, would be useful to have the option to mix and match I think :)

Endurance peeps been using them for years, bright colours good to be seen out as well as fun. I have white, cobalt blue & dark yellow ones, all show up really well. Main suppliers plas equestrian, performance equestrian & pioneer harness. You might find it worth having a stand at some of your local endurance rides next year (last ride of season for 2012 this sunday).

As Pip says - endurance people use them... Here Pharaoh is sporting a biothane bridle in brown and a hi-viz breastplate martingale (from Performance Equestrian).

I've been making beta tack for a few years now, I have purple myself. Started off with using other peoples bridles when I first started endurance but found the sizing useless, which is why I started making my own :) I do a lot of custom sized items as well.

I've asked this question elsewhere and have had suggestions or doing 'spare parts' so people can choose just to have a noseband or a browband instead of purchasing a whole bridle, I like this idea. :)

Personally I wouldn't be interested in them, my horses have quality bridles & I would continue to use these. We have Hi Vi breast girths, exercise sheets, boots, ears & tabards. I see no reason to buy anything else, I think they're 'loud' enough to be seen. Good Luck with your business though. :)

I wouldn't - I have seen too many horses freak catching the reflaction of hi-viz from their nose. If it was highviz bar the noseband I would :)

I would for orange with reflective, particularly breastplate. It's increasingly hard to get quality horse hivis stuff in orange.

I would possibly be interested in some simple bridles (ie with no noseband) if the price was reasonable. I'm not proud about what colour my horses wear and I like to be seen.

This. I've just got a hi-viz sheet in orange and it's brilliant - your retinas melt just from squinting at it. ;) I now covet hi-viz orange and I'd love to see an example of the orange, reflective biothane.

I currently have a black material bridle (not sure what its made out of but its like the Libby's ones)

I love it! It probably gets more use than his Stubben as I use it whenever the weather looks dodgy and it it ever gets wet/muddy/ both then it just goes straight in the washing machine :D

As long as cost was reasonable would probably get at least a breastplate as long as it had the martingale connector as need one when hacking. May also invest in a bridle depending on the cost and weather he was likely to knobber at it (likely!) I would prob opt for pink but not sure if H would be impressed as he already has the girlyness of pink leg bands :D He may not let it near him due to a) being scared of it and b) the shame of other geldings seeing him in it! May have to go with orange or green.

Think it would be good if it had reflective strips on.

I like that breastplate in that it has a martingale attachment that is also reflective. Thats the sort of thing I would look to get.

I would, infact it is the only reason why I would stray from leather :o and orange with reflective would be my choice :D
