My lad has been coming on really well and i think my riding has aswell.

But now i have hit a brick wall. . .

I have real problems with my right arm/hand. And i also sit to my right hand side. And because i am now aware of it due to a new instructor i have become totally paranoid about it.

Due to my strong right arm he falls in going around corners. . .i can get it right with my instrucotr there but when im on my own i go totally to pot. Yesterday i spent ten mins in the school and gave up because i decided that i was going to cause more harm then good by schooling him.

I just dont know what to do really. . . .he is pretty well schooled and in lessons goes really well and he does work laterally, but i just cant release my arm.

Im just one of those people that feel if you cant do it right, then why do it. . .or i will keep going untill it is right but in gettin it right i will wind myself up untill i break. . .usually in floods of tears because i just can't do it. . .

Sorry for my ramblings but i just needed to vent. . .

I have a stronger left arm, which makes it more consistant and useful as an outside rein but often too restricting as an inside rein....if that makes sense.....it's not as bad now but what my instructor used to do in my earlier lessons was to hold my rein upside down in this hand and that made me unable to be strong with it.....it's difficult to explain in writing but the rein goes across the top of your first finger and hangs down into the centre of your hand but does not go between the other fingers.......maybe someone else can explain it better...?

Have you been to a chiro/osteo to get yourself checked? I used to collapse to the left and it turned out my pelvis and hips were out of alignment. So much so that at one point my left stirrup was a hole longer than the right one!

i have the same problem. you could try riding with a neckstrap and holding onto it with your inside hand when your strong arm is on the inside to stop you getting too strong (can can tweak the rein with your fingers but not pull or lean) - it solves the problem in the short term but not long term so the other thing is really concentrate on relaxing your strong arm and dropping the weight into your elbow - try to imagine it being a bit swingy (if that makes any sense at all) - that helps me to relax it and not hang on. i also go for regular physio which helps me relax the muscles in that arm and evens me out.

Hope that helps..
