I have been looking into doing a fun/sponsored ride and have found one that looks good on 26th September. Its in Saddleworth, Lancashire and would probably take around 45 mins to get there from Halifax.

I have never arranged any form of transport before and my question is, what would be the best way to travel?

I have someone else that would come along and pay towards costs et but they are pretty clueless aswel and it has been left for me to arrange.

Having looking on the interent and tried to do some research, it is all very confusing! Could someone give me some advice on the following points:

* Does someone come, pick you up, dirve you there, wait for you then take you home again?

* Would you hire it for a full day or half day (horses are pretty fit so wouldnt take massive amounts of time to get round)??

* prices? how much would we be looking to pay for a driven one??

* I have no idea on the rules of the 'self drive' ones, I can drive but im only 22 so obv i wouldnt be able to drive, but for example, could someone older, say my mum, be able to drive one. Someone who is insured fully comp?

Any advice would be more than welcome as i shamefully dont know anything!

You can hire self drive boxes, although they can be expensive - look here for one near you @ £99 a day. http://www.hoovesonthemove.com/index.php .

The Cost probably includes insurance but won't include diesel. I don't know this company, I just did a quick google! You will be able to drive this as it's 3.5 tonne, but I suspect you'd be overweight with 2 horses in unless they are both small-ish.

Also there are people who will take you, and sometimes stay, or come back for you - probably your cheaper option. Basic rule of thumb, the more time you need them, the more expensive it will be. I guess the most difficult aspect will be knowing how long you'll be on the ride itself and therefore what time someone needs to be there to pick you back up. I'm based in Huddersfield and I know a few people who have used Greg Roberts in the past - his number is Phone: 07986 173299. He seems pretty reliable, but sorry no idea of cost.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, that gives me a good idea on what i should be looking for.

Horses are 16.1/2 but throughbreds so not sure about weight! will look into it.

Yeah that was what i was thinking, not sure how long it would take to do the ride so couldnt give a time as to when we could be collected. I'll do some more investigating.

Thanks again :)
