Can I have some moral support?

Dan Sherriff (dressage man) is coming to do a clinic at our yard on Thursday. I decided it would be a good idea to have a lesson and signed up. Now I'm terrified.

The horse has only been schooling again for about 2 months after 5 years of hacking, and I had those 5 years pretty much off of riding. We've never been into dressage and I'm worried he'll just think we're below him. I'm not scared of working hard and know my position will only improve again with someone shouting at us... But eek!

Please tell me it'll all be okay? We're not horrendous by any means, she works in a decent outline and does understand bending and basic lateral work, but I struggle to really get her going forwards as she tends to switch off in the school and her canter at the moment is so unbalanced it's painful. :(

Oh dear :) I am sure that all will be fine, after all you obviously want to improve and any decent instructor will take that as a plus, much better than those who go to show how good they are and not to learn :p :D

I just find it frustrating at the moment because I know how much better we can be than we are at the moment - I know what my leg needs to do, I just don't have the muscle to do it! Think Cleo probably feels the same way about cantering and goi sideways

Thanks yorksG :)

I'm sure the instructor has seen every type of rider and horse going and wont bat an eyelid.
Riding is meant to be fun, and when your paying for instruction yeah its about learning and improving, but its still meant to be fun.

Just get in there, enjoy and try your best, and you'll end up being rather pleased with yourself and your horse xxxx

Well - that could have gone better! It turns out what felt right from on top - was definitely not right.

I didn't get shouted at for my position too much (which is what I expected would happen) - but apparently I've been letting her get away with running round on her forehand so he wants us to go back to basics with lunging in side reins: Where I thought she was being lazy, he thinks she's actually just running through my hand.

He made me take up a much heavier contact and really ask her for more bend and flexion. I can't quite believe how wrong I've been about how she's going! I need someone to film me... he was definitely tough. (Which I kind of needed...)
