Hi,

I have a lovely 17hh brown Dutch Warmblood mare who came to me with a not so lovely name!! 'Radar'.

She does know her name but I want to change it to something nicer that also doesn't get a funny response every time I tell someone what her name is! So trying to come up with a name that sounds similar - little stuck for ideas so thought I would get some help from you on here!

I'm useless with names i'm afraid!! I just had a quick browse on a name idea site and looked at those beginning with R.. wasnt very helpful, but there was Rainy, Raya and Rae (apparently means doe?)

Also..stumbled upon a baby name generator!!! That's one way of choosing a name for your child... not sure i would leave it to a computer though! :D

If she responds to the first part of her name (the ray in raydar) she might get quickly use to responding to Fay/Faye. Slightly more feminine. Difficult name to work with - very little similar and not much that rhymes with it!

Do you think you should? They reckon it's bad luck to change a horse's name ;)

Have to admit there are some I've heard that I definitely couldn't live with though!

I'm not too superstitous! Even if she just has a nicer nickname!
Thanks for the suggestions so far, still umming and arring!! its a tricky on!

i think you are like me...i like to keep a horses name especially if they know it....when i phone up about a horse for sale the first thing i ask is their name as i think it means something....well it does to me....i have however changed one horses name...he was called horse..and he knew his name well..we changed it to morse...
i think her name is ok...and you will get used to it..

I like the Rae and Fay's mentioned... Could always add an 'ah' on the end to keep similar to her two syllable name...

Raeah or Faeah... Meaningless to my knowledge but fairly pretty in use and unlikely to find someone else's horse answering... :)

When I got my TB he had no name...learnt his within 3 days flat and he comes hurtling to the gate the minute it's yelled... Very handy as he's the alpha horse in the herd so every body else's follows behind him like he's the pied piper... :D
