For my GSD Buffy. She is going to the vets tomorrow to be speyed. She has been having increasingly erratic seasons and false pregnancies, so it really is for the best but I am dreading leaving her in the morning. She is a picture of health at the moment and I know she will be really sorry for herself tomorrow evening (she is a wimp anyway), so just know I will feel really guilty. I am going to give her arnica before she goes in the morning, and have got some milk thistle which I have been told will help her after the surgery, if anyone has any other tips would be very grateful to receive them. I've had GSDs all my life but because I breed them have rarely had them speyed, only ones have been emergencies, one after a caesarian and 2 with pyometras so have never had this build up before

She will be fine. Its you I'm worried about. If you are like me you will feel very guilty putting her through it. But it nessessary and she won't hold it against you, and in a couple of days she will be fantastic again. Sending lots of healing thoughts her way.....

Just try and keep her sleeping area nice and quiet, and your other dogs away from her so that she doesn't feel unduly stressed. Your vet may or may not give her an e-collar. Ours actually advises putting an old t-shirt on the dog to cover stitches, which is probably a lot more comfortable for them.

Like others have said, she will be right as rain a couple of days afterwards.

Had my whippet spayed 4 days ago...and had her stitched up at the same time as de-gloved her leg...she was a whimp...little sympathy she got from me(Im a mean mummy)

Thanks for the vibes. Vets phoned about an hour ago, she had come through the op fine (also had a hernia repaired). Because of her track record with injections (had major problems after booster last year), has had intravenous antibiotics and then oral when I bring her home. I am sure she is going to make a meal of it but better done now than as an emergency with a pyo, which seemed a possibility given her history. Off to pick her up shortly, so she will soon be home. My experience of anaesthetics is that they make a huge effort to wake up and are quite bright when you get them from the vets and when you get them home they relax and sleep for England, hope she does that, don't want any post anaesthetic howling
