I **think** I remember somebody telling me that is some kind of colt/ religion/ group and they believe horse hair can improve fertility or something along those lines.
It could be worse- at least the horses are not being injured. That said I would be mighty p**sed off if I arrived at the yard one morning to find one of my horses missing its mane and tail!!
My pony lost a huge chunk out his tail once and it was a mystery til I spotted it in someone elses ponies false tail they use for showing (long story had had sweet itch rubbed all hair out was growing back but only had short stubby tail so they use to plait 'hair' extensions into it for showing classes). Spoke to YO who confronted them they said they hadn't stolen hair out my pony's tail!So YO came to me said no it wasn't them, so I said how come her false tail has got black wavy hair in it with grey strands and my pony is the only one on the yard with wavy hair with grey hairs through it! Anyway the next thing they said was but you said we could have hair from your pony! Which I most certainly did not!! It wouldn't have been so bad but they didn't take little subtle strands they practically cut half his tail off in one chunk, did they not think I would notice!! Then the YO said to me a few days later, she had been missing bits from her horses tail many times over the years and suspected them! So why did she never do anything about it!
Ok that was slightly off topic but I have been saving that lttle rant up for the last oooooooooo 17 years!!
Back on topic its very bizarre isn't it??!! At least they horses aren't being hurt i hope they catch the nut who's doing it!
Somebody put up a post in connection with it happening in another part of the country a few months ago. It looked as if the hair was being stolen to use for human hair extensions!
I think Mad Egg and Finn McCoul have put forward 2 very good points, i'm inclined to agree that its possible it is to annoy the owners or a rocking horse manufacturer, as they do use real hair, both very very possible pausible explanations.
It could be someone who used to be at the yard, someone with a grudge against the YO etc, I knew of someone who did this to someone else's horse out of jealousy!! So sad!
Yeah, thats near me. Absolutely horrible. Its not even the taking off a bit of hair thats worrying - its the thought of people running about in my field even touching my horses that would freak me out. This has happened quite a few times up here - people have found their horses manes & tail hair cut and the creepiest incidents has been things put into their manes, like sticky twigs plaited into them.
I believe it is some weird pagan cult round here who do it - there's one who links horses as gods or some crap. Sicko's. If I was this woman, who's had many of her horses attacked over the past few months I would be out camping with them!!!!

Waves Hi Jiff
Yes I think i do recall this happening now for human consumption
I wonder if Vic Beckhams hair is made up of dear old Neddies lol
I remember this happening many many years ago to two horses who were kept in an industrial area in Inverness. The two horses were about to embark on a long distance fundraiser and i'm sure people said it was an attempt to sabotage the event.
I'm on about 12 years ago or so so not really relevant- but someone mentioned the P&J (Press and Journal in North East Scotland) so it was fairly close in distance.
