can i leave to rug on in stable?

My horses have always been turned out 24/7 in all weather and no rugs.This year they had to be in for a while but now i want to turn them out a few times a week at least but want to get a rug rather than put them out in the freezing cold when they are used to their stables now (although it is probably just as cold in them) Im not sure wether to get a light or medium weight rug? They are both cobs.One has slight arthiritis in hocks.Dont have the money to buy stable and turnout so if i buy them turnout rugs,could i have them on them overnight in the stable as well?

yes modern TO rugs breath and are light to wear so you dont need stable rugs, You do need a minimm of medium weight as lightweights tend not to be waterproof and make the horse cold by flattening the coat
