You mean too tall, or too heavy ? It is likely you are neither. Look at Mark Todd and William Fox-Pitt, they are way over 6ft and yes, they look tall on their horses, but does it matter - of course not.

When I was in between horses, I rode my friends 14.2 Section D. I am 5'11 and weigh 13 stone. The pony wasn't bothered. In fact we had a lot of fun. I have 34 inch inside leg, so I have lonnnnng legs.

Don't worry about it.

Me (6ft) on my girl (14.3)

Bollocks to what anyone else thinks. If you and the horse are happy and comfortable, it's all good!

I'm 5.7 and have a 15.2hh (and a 15hh!) and I'm 12 stone and I know i'm ok on mine. I wouldn't worry - you look fine from what I can make out in the pics. The horse looks a sturdy type too so should be able to carry more weight than your slim frame!
As long as your legs aren't touching the ground you'll be ok (joke) xx

Thanks guys - i hate it when these things get into your head! I meant too tall - dont reckon i'm too heavy - although im currently a couch potato with a broken ankle!!
Thanks for the photos, you guys look totally fine on them!
No feet on the floor lol - legs dont come to the end of his royal chubbyness' belly!!

Well you're unlikely to be too tall!

My daughter is a little shorter than you but has very long legs for her height and was quite happily campaigning a 15.1 Welsh who had enormous withers, really he was a just a 14.2. She also rode the grey in the link shown, who just scrapes in at 15hh.

In the link her rider is 5'8 and she's jumping an Intro SJ round. click on for the next few photos as well!

A gratuitous chance to show off Daisy:

Her ad said that she was 15.2 when i went to see her but she's more like 15hh. I am a bit too tall for dressage on her but she's cobby so she takes my gangly legs surprisingly well.

Hope it wasn't my random comment - I said something about a week ago about wanting a Section D but being too tall for most of them at 5'8". If it was I was referring to my old 14hh boy whom I had since I was 13 and much smaller - just couldn't get rid of him no matter how tall I grew. Anyway there's a huge difference between 14hh and 15.2/3hh and I would jump at the chance of one of those but all the bigger ones that are anywhere near decent cost a fortune! I now have a 16.2hh IDx and get told he's too big for me - but he is built like a tank!

How about a 5ft7 on a 15hh?

I'm selling in August because I feel too tall, and I still have some growing to do, so will not consider anything under 16hh again as a long term horse. However, I doubt you're too tall for your horse if your legs don't even go past their belly!!!

Thanks all - feel much better now! Lovely horsies

No it wasnt a post on here, it was a RL comment - not aimed at me but got me thinking! My last horse was a 16.2hh tb so this one will mature a bit smaller - but much chunkier!!

Lol thanks- it's long legs, short body - great for dressage, awful finding a jumping saddle!:

No point having a horse and not having fun, it's expensive and a hobby - me and Jo both learnt that with our last horses!!!!

Yes it is a shame, but as you can see from the jumping photo I have ridiculously long legs compared to my body. And I am still growing. I'm not too heavy for her at all, but I am too tall, and it can make us both a little unbalanced. I've finally accepted that I need to let her go and move on, though it will kill me to do it. But the thing is, I am at home on a big moving 16.2hh middleweight, not a lightweight 15hh. I feel guilty beyond belief about selling her, as I promised her a home for life, but I did not expect to outgrow both my parents and sisters

Poor little lady, I love her more than words and am going to find her the best home I can.

height doesn't really matter to a horse, its weight. if you horse happierly carrys you then thats fine.

p.s. i'm 5ft9 and ride a 15.3 (mostly wither) and 16.1 and they are both fine

Sorry, no pics, but I'm 5ft 9/10 on a 15.2hh Appy. I have fallen off her once and didn't hurt myself at all. Result!
