Dad has recently traded in his land rover disco for a citroen c5 2.0 HDi estate. Its kerb weight is 1574, which makes its towing capacity max 1300 inc the pony. I need something lightweight, and naively thought that the old rices were - but I cant find any info on their weights. Best I can get is vague descriptions on ebay of 'light weight trailer'.
Was so hoping to find a tatty but sound bargain and do it up myself.. sort of like my ponies really

Even the modern lw Ifor Williams single has a Max of 1600 , so too heavy
The older Rice trailers will be much heavier.

I remember correctly its unladen weight is approx. 950kg

so it would be over 1300 laden
The IFor is 750 unladen

Rice made a "lightweight" trailer to be towed by cars, before the new rules and regs came in. I think they were called Europa(?)

I don't know if they could still be "legally" towed by a car now.

If you are thinking of the Rice Beaufort/Farmers Hunt, etc. they would be too heavy for any car.

I've got an old Bahill trailer and I think they're about the lightest you can get. They're a bit scarce now but they do come up on ebay from time to time if you want to check them out. I took mine to the weighbridge and it weighed 680 kilo's without the partition (I use a single breastbar) We researched a lot into the weight of trailers because we have to use a car. I thought the Ifor Williams were 950 kilo's but I could be wrong.
Good luck in your search!

Have found a Gooch trailer for sale on ebay that looks promising, but again no unladen weight! Have to say I've never heard of Gooch before..

I have the same tow capacity with my car - Nissen Primera - 1300k.

I have a Bateson Derby which I use with the partition taken out as my cob is now 15 hands and fairly wide. Trailer without the partition is 575 and my cob is now 500 k so I am ok for weight.

I paid £1500 for mine two years ago - 7 years old and in very good condition with new floor - this was from a dealer.

Trailer is rear unload only which for me is not a problem and I love it - you can easily move it by hand and it tows like a dream. Will take 2 x 14.2 ponies but I will only tow with my chap with my car but have lent it to a friend to take her two ponies with her big merc estate.

I do remember that Rice did a pony trailer which was about the 600k mark so you may be lucky and find one to do up cheaply. There are a couple on ebay at the moment. Years ago I used to tow my TB in one with my estate car.

Chevel do a single horse trailer that is 500k but I don't think you can get them that old or cheap easily.

The big old two horse rice trailers were really heavy - had to use my landrover to pull my mates one with just my little TB in it.
