Can I see pictures of your fatty paddocks please?

No photo, but it's one which is grazed down by others, fenced as standard paddock but smaller and horses are hayed enough to have something going through their system if sectioned smaller.

It's large enough that two are turned out together

My gelding is fenced off within the usual field, grass is now eaten down, but definitely not bare. He is giving me the 'I'm starved' look when I go catch him, even though he is producing enough poo for me to know that he is eating enough.

I have been moving the fence a little every few days, but just interested to see how eaten down others paddocks are, and if I should be giving into the pathetic looks I get from him when I get to the field!!

If he's still pooing he's still eating! Mine are on long old grass but only have a 3rd of the field atm as there is just far too much of it.

Dont forget how short they can nip down with their teeth, its not like cows that need long grass to wrap their tongues around. If you want him to drop weight over winter ul have to ignore the face to some degree :p Im walking around with my eyes shut lol

Bliss here, fatty is hunting two days most weeks so this is the one time in the year when I can relax a bit he can graze with his pals out about four hours on average and can have almost add lib haylage lite.
He looks great slimmer than this time as year.
his strip is left up so it's not poached in the spring .
They have around six acres between three stabled at night.

And also whether you are feeding hay or not!

Thanks :)

This is where the minis live (quarter acre) they are never allowed onto a paddock where there is much grass. Rose has had founder and Charley is a prize porker. I feed hay all year round.

Gosh Enfys your minis must be small I can't see them!!! :D

Teeny tiny :D

They were probably mowing a walkway or  tethered! Zip lines and trailer ties are brilliant for little ponies. Strip grazing without electric fencing :)and it saves me strimming the fence lines ;)

Enfys i think you have found a niche market for organic low carbon emission garden tools which also provide fertilizer and better for the enviroment!:)

Hehe thats fabulous - you could hire them out to OAPs as lawnmowers :D

Esther how are your tracks not mud swamps?! I had to relent and take mine off a couple of weeks ago as they were just bogs. Upside I wont have much grass next spring :D

I use my minis as lawn mowers, they get moved from their field onto the front lawn a couple of times a week and if its really dry they go on my back garden and side lawns. They do a very good job a few of our neighbours have asked to borrow them! But they are obviously not has small as Enfys', I can see mine. :D

No pic but stripped grazed at night and muzzled out in the big paddock during the day. Now the dark nights are upon us I cant micro manage them like I need to and they are starting to put on weight but I am hoping for snow to cover the grass and cold so they can shiver excess off. If I am honest no matter what I do they are always over weight.. I muzzle, strip graze, soaked hay if they come in, never feed any extra food ride as much as poss. Basicallly if left to themselves they just dont move just eat take a step, eat take a step and so on 24/7 agrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Mine are in here during the day with a small amount if soaked hay

And they are out in the bigger field at night (not that there is much more grass in here as it desperately needs resting!)
