Can i seriously have a horse this size as my own?

Daughter is seemingly going off her pony slightly- cant blame her he's sharp to put it mildly and she's been offered the ride of a lovely calm horse.
Im wondering if I should take over the riding of pony, maybe not full time right now but better the devil you know and all that. Id rather keep him as he's not a safe kids pony so would worry about selling and he gets on so so well with my old horse who's been bullied all his life with anything he's ever turned out with- these are inseparable (but can cope whilst ones being ridden)
After a few riding accidents I have said id never get another horse as long as I live and I wont- but we already have this one and although he is naughty with a capitol N like I say better the devil you know! Im happy to ride him and am sure with consistant work and a more confident adult rather than my daughter who although a good little rider knew he was too strong and lost her confidence a little with him he will improve.
He's 14.3 Connie X and I'm 5'3" and about 9 stone (arrghhh) this is post Christmas and id like to say my normal weight is about 8 and a half.
I feel a bit silly on him with my horse being a 16.2 hulk so I guess its more what im not used to?
 
Course you can have him as your own, at that weight and height you'll look fine. One of mine is 15.3, my youngster is going to make 14.2hh tops.

We have a lady at our yard who is a similar size who has a Connie she took over from her daughter and they look great together! I'm 5ft8 and wouldn't worry about riding a 14.3hh. Check out JFTD's pictures she's taller than me and Fergs is a pony, they look great together.
 
I ride a cob who's probably about the same size and I'm taller and heavier than you. You will be fine I'm sure. He sounds like fun :)
 
Maybe im also wondering about the fact several people recently have said "never mind she's out growing him anyway" and similar which makes me wonder as im still taller than her! (for now anyway)
 
Absolutely!

My horse is 14.3 and I'm 5'5" and nine stone and I think I look fine on her! I've ridden a 14.1 too and that was fine as well, I didn't think I looked ridiculous when I looked in the mirrors in the school. :D

He is quite- you cant let your guard down too much but he's very green I hope with a bit of schooling when the ground dries up he will come good.
So so different from my own horse though!
 
Of course you can!! Mine is a 14.3hh athletic looking welsh D (i mean he's not very chunky) and I'm 5'3 and a half and weigh 9 stone or under I think (I don't weigh but wear size 10-12 in clothes so that's a guess). I think we look perfect together
 
I took over my son's 14.2 welshxtb when he outgrew her (I'm 5'4") and have never had so much fun! RC/Dressage/showing and exciting hacking. The only downside is that she is a bit sharp and much quicker when she spooks!
My friend had a conniex 14.2 which she regularly evented and she is 5'7".
 
I am 5'3 and was about 8 stone and my pony was a 14hh Welsh X and I never felt to big on her. Lets just say I am no longer 8 stone hence my 15.2hh heavy Welsh Sect D cob!!!! You will be fine on the pony and I am sure he will have more respect for you than your daughter.
 
I'm 5ft 3" and ride my friends 14.2 cob - no idea what I weigh but I wear size 10 clothes

My friend rides her other 14.2 cob and looks good and she's 5ft 7" (but all leg - biatch :) )

I think you'll look fab on your daughters ponio :)
 
A pony that size would not blink at 12 stone never mind 9 stone. Years ago they carried men around ireland and pulled strong loads over rough terrain.
 
Absolutely fine. I'm 9stone & 5'10 & still ride my 14.2 connie x tb, & I've competed & hunted her at this height as an adult without issues too. I wasn't far off this height when I was still under 16 (although lighter) so its never even occurred to me to stop riding her. I'm mainly legs so needed swan neck spurs for higher level schooling, but I'm a lot taller than you so doubt you'll have that issue. I'm so unbothered about how I look that the next one I buy will be a 3/4 yr old connie or connie x tb to make 14.2 that I will ride ft for a few years to bring it on for my daughter to have in her teens.
 
I rode my daughters 14.3 connie today to try and get over a few problems we have been having lately. I'm 5ft 8 nearly 10 stone and I felt fine on him. Only thing was he did a big sigh when I got off. Oh thought that was hilarious and he won't let me forget it now :D so no I think you're a good size for him it's just you're used to riding bigger.
 
Well I'm 5'9", 11 stone, and ride a hefty 14.2hh and two slight 15 handers. I don't think I look huge on any of them, but actually look bigger on the two taller boys as they are not as round in the barrel. If you like riding the pony just go for it, never mind what other people think.
 
I took over my daughters ride too, I'm 5'6" and 9 st, she was a 14.2 tb x cob, no problems whatsoever. My other horse at the time was a 16.2 han x tb, but I found it really enjoyable to ride the pony too. Got to do all the little paths and stuff I couldn't do on my own horse, it was great!

LMAO oh they do nothing for your ego horses. :D

When I was a lot lighter I liked riding ponies, you were so much closer to the ground and anything naughty they did just didn't seem as scary.
 
Goodness, you'll be fine, I'm 5'10" and used to do 12-15mile endurance rides on a 14.1hh Connie... and I'm also heavier then your 9st!
