Can I share my good news(laminitis)

My mare was struck down with acute laminitis 4 weeks ago brought on from rain sun and stressy mare in season.Total Box rest, imprint shoes etc.
Today she has had all 4 feet X-rayed and they found no rotation at all

So now she is allowed 1/2 an hour a day out in small paddock then an hour the following week etc etc and she can be ridden next week but before we do anything she needs building up again not by food just condition and mild lunging.

So the whole paddock issue is now in the fore front of my mind will keep her off the good pastures and back to the main grazed paddock still a long way to go but we are over the worst of it....or not as I will be the most paranoid owner out there watching for every slight change.

Very pleased to hear this. Any posts mentioning recovering laminitis sufferers fills me with joy for the owner (and the pony of course).

Yep - been there. It's sole destroying when you no longer see the spark in their eyes. But it's, oh so, wonderful when it returns!

Was your vet able to identify what caused this incident of Laminitis as this will assist you in future management of your horse?

As I said in the first post rain,sun and 1 stressy hormonal mare plus new paddock although she had been on it for 3 weeks being strip grazed.It wasn't the first time in this paddock she spent last summer on it and showed no signs at all. In fact she has never showed any signs of before in her life.
 
Yes it is isn't it.
I was just wondering how long was it before Cloud became a "normal pony" again turn out wise/feed/riding and how do you stop becoming that really over protective owner??
 
Well she came down with it in May/June 2004 - was very very sick for about a month, but then with the help of Old Macs (allowing her exercise) and Dengie Hi-fi Lite and Farriers Formula, I'd say she was finally able to be ridden out by August, if memory serves me right.

By September/October, you'd never know she had been so close to death, as she was fighting fit and back to her old self.

She was re-xrayed at some point around the beginning of December; x-rays came back clear and bones were all in the right place (even though rotation HAD occurred in the acute stage) and she was then pronounced healthy and fit for her flight over here on the 10th December 2004.

I have never ever fed her coarsemix again - needless to say!

She has never had another bout of laminitis since, or before this one-off episode.......however I have never really grown out of being the protective owner I'm afraid. I think once you go through an horrific ordeal such as this, it never really leaves you. I'm no longer paranoid, but I do still run my checks on her every 3 or 4 days.
