Can i train to be a riding instructor @ 26 years old

I am weighing up my optons at the mo and have recently been reschooling my horse, which i have really enjoyed. I would love to teach others how to ride and get their horses going well. Is this a silly idea at 26 or has anyone else done it later in life???
 
It's not a silly idea at all. I used to train students of all ages, some came to us to do a three month course to train for their BHS prelim intructor certificate just as a sebatical from their normal job, and stayed to get their teaching hours and then stayed on as staff, if that's what you fancy doing contact Wellington Riding they are really good for this training. http://www.wellington-riding.co.uk/
 
I am doing it aged 27!

Got a job on a yard and doing my stages etc along side it. Had to take a small pay cut to do it but really enjoying it so far. How amazing its it to go to work doing you hobby? I dont even mind the endless mucking out. I have quite a bit of experiance. I worked on a yard when I was younger. So hoping to get trained up asap.
 
Of course you can!
There is no limit on taking the BHS exams and IMO a lot of people feel more comftable with an older instructor that started late then someone in their late teens who has done the same work stright form school.
From talking to people at local yards,getting a position as a WP will be a bit more tricky(got some truthfull answers that it is purely because teens cost less to emplot,fair enough) but plenty still thought they would prefer someone a bit older who had made a well thought out decision to do the job as they would be more commited.

I'm 28 BTW,and hope to sit the stage one next spring,maybe the two later in the year if I feel up to it :p Good luck! :D
 
Never too young! My fantastic instructor was always horsey but was a nurse and only did her BHS exams in her 30's! Now owns and runs a very successfull equestrian centre! Go for it!

I did my stage one a few years ago now intending to crack on with my stages but what with my own horses, life in general (plus health issues) I haven't done any more. Although I may make my Stage 2 and 3my goal for 2011!

I hope not!! As I am 27 and want to do my stages... I am doing (equi study) a degree in equine Studies and want to my stages too, as I want to work for an equine charity...

Need to start doing work experience (cannot find somewhere though!) and I feel a real plonker calling up as I am so old at 27!! :(

Me! I'm doing it (although I'm 27 next week, EEK!)

Last year I did my NVQ2, I did it for the sum total of £50 and fitted it in around working full time (I hadn't bought my horse then, fell in love with him at work and bought him from them!)

Anyway, this year I am getting coaching at work and am allowed to teach as a trainee I have been put forward to do my UK Coaching Certificate Level 2, basically aimed at those who already teach but I'm working very hard to be at a good basic level (more books than I can shake a stick at and great feed back from my boss on how to improve!).

UKCC is done for me via the Pony Club (work is a PC centre) costing me £160 and I start in August, one Monday in August, One in September and two in October, all around my full time job (plus working Saturdays as yard manager & teaching!)

Once I've done this I might also go on and do my PTT.

It can be done!!!! All this around full time job, horse, part time job at yard and ocassionally feeding the OH before 8pm!
