Can I use weed and feed type products?

I’m trying to sort out garden out and want to fix the lawn! It’s currently really suffering with no rain so brown mostly except the weeds which have done mad and I’m fighting a loosing battle pulling up.
Is it safe to use one of the all in one fertiliser/week killer type lawn products bearing in mind its our only garden so I can’t not let the dogs out (we don’t have front and back)
One has quite sensitive skin but also worried about them licking paws and ingesting it.

I wouldn't have them on it for at least a couple of days, especially if no rain, put them on a lead and toilet them away from the treated area.

Could you mow on a higher setting or embrace the weeds and make a tapestry lawn, rather than using chemicals when insects are foraging?

That’s an option, I could just dash them to the gate and out into a field. The thing is rain keeps being forecast but not happening! Although that won’t last forever.

It’s looks really really awful, they are really taking over. I’m even pulling ragwort up.
It’s not a big garden, and not all grass so only small
Areas really and we are surrounded by game and flower strips and conservation area so I’d not think it should cause too much damage.

You shoudn't apply any weedkiller when grass is in drought, it will damage the grass too. You need rain shorty after application.

Can you spot spray the worst of the weeds? Seeing as they're actively growing still. May is the best month to spray but try to avoid the grass, or just keep digging out the worst offenders. My husband despairs of out lawn, it has buttercups, dandelions, daisys and clover in addition to grass. For me it's somewhere safe for the dogs and I don't really care what covers the earth so long as it can be mown.

Yes I guess, if the grass that’s there was a bit greener I suppose it wouldn’t look so awful.

The house is L shape with the big of garden in the middle of that so anyone that comes here has to enter via that bit of garden. I’d just like it too look less hideous. I can spot spray yes, it’s mostly plantain and dandelions

When you think the courses farmers and so on have to go on (and add on how much spray costs, and they don’t want to waste it) to going to a garden centre and seeing racks and racks of chemicals.
