I’ve started adding a capful of micronised linseed oil to my horse and my 2yr olds feed. They don’t get hard feed as such, just a handful of chaff. my 2yr olds coat is poor so thought it would help.
It’s bewn about 10 days and I had the worst ride ever yesterday on my horse. He was absolutely razor sharp 😂 and my 2 yr old was a devil to lead 😈 back out to the field.
Just a coincidence right??!
I can’t feed my horse alfalfa etc as it sends him loopy

Anything can make a horse 'loopy'. I don't have experience of linseed having that effect on horses but I have had horses who could not eat alfalfa, cereals, sugar, carrots, Brewer's Yeast, seaweed. All stuff that other horses can eat with impunity. I always say if something in the management has changed and the horse's behaviour changes, reverse the management change to see if that helps.

Generally it wouldn’t be expected to, but horses can react to all sorts of things so it’s possible.

I had a feed sensitive horse (who ironically was fine on Alfa) who went completely mental on micronised linseed!

Recently started giving linseed to mine to help with weight gain, noticed no change at all. Same when I fed oats, and mollased sugarbeet. She is the sort that is so laid back she would fall over though and my other one is loopy anyway so I wouldn't notice the difference tbh!

I have one who reacts badly to it, as he does to all grains and alfalfa. It's like a mad switch gets turned on somewhere, you can see it in his eyes.

I thought micronised linseed was meant to have a slightly calming effect.

I feed it to my horse without a problem.

I have a feeling that the spring grass might be the culprit here but as someone else has already suggested, if you aren't convinced, remove the linseed and see what happens.
Slightly hijacking the original post but what is the difference between Linseed oil and micronised linseed?

Try stopping feeding it and see what happens. Then start again. See if there is a correlation. I would not expect it to be the case though, certainly not a capful.

Okay thanks all. I don’t think I’ve ever know him as sharp (apart from when he had that high fi oil stuff 🙈)

Yes!! Micronised linseed caused my lad I lost to be nuts - passed it onto yard owner for her slightly younger horse and he was a nutter on it too!! But know lots that are absolutely fine on it as well!
