I have a little grey pony who has this, he only gets it in the summer then it turns black in the winter. Just make sure you protect him from the sun

My cob has this, the vet diagnosed vitiligo and gave me steroid cream which is really helping. I use the cream at night and sunblock during the day. He had a black muzzle when i bought him and this is him now:

Sorry about the huge picture but photobucket keep dying when i try to edit the size

Mine has vitiligo too but he is bay & has a lot more patches than D-D-D's cob. It started as a small patch next to his eye and spread over his eyelids/eye area and muzzle. I have noticed recently it has definately got less & I've done nothing to change diet/management etc. Don't know if the pigment will ever come back completely - apparantly it comes and goes? Interesting about the steroid cream though - didn't know about that.

Mine got this when he got older he always had a black muzzle but now he has little pink spots all over it

I have an 25yo Anglo Arab grey mare who I have had for 14 years and I guess for the last 10 of those years the pigment around her eye and muzzle has changed every year. It has never caused any problems.

An old friend of mine drew a lovely picture of Polly for me several years ago now, as a gift, from a photo. By the time the picture was finished and I received it, Polly's markings were completely different!

I have heard, although I really don't know for certain if it has been proved, that it can be caused by a copper deficiency.

Apparently it is also quite common in Arabs and horses with Arab blood (but judging by the cobs in the posts above it's obviously not exclusive to Arabs!).

Well, this is interesting!! we are unsure of his exact breeding as he suffers from anotehr condition that occurs in Quarter horses too....

He used to be coloured so not sure if this is a factor? I dont have pics of him when he was colured but might be able to get some from his owner. Tis very strange though!!

My liver chestnut Welsh B is having depigmentation around his muzzle (one side only) and has white spots in his coat, mostly on his neck. He gets pink spots which gradually get bigger and merge, but around his eyes they seem to come and go. I was in great fear of him getting spectacles and sunburn but I am relaxing slightly since he seems to get white spots in his fur instead. I am fairly certain his muzzle is getting grey again

Lord knows why, or the answer to it, as nothing I have done has altered.
