As title really, I have purchased a stunning 16.3hh tb ex racer but in only just 5ft tall!!!!! he is lovely to ride and i know i look tiny but is it stupid or possible long term? I think it will be but looking for examples of other people!

I guess getting on is the biggest problem - once you're up there you should be fine.

If you fall off whilst out hacking, you'll either have to find a fence or have a long walk home :)

I really think it depends on the rider!
I am 5 ft 3 but with very long legs....however i look utterly ridiculous on anything over 15.2!
My riding isntructor is the same height but she looks completely right on horse over 16hh, one of her horses is 17.2 and she looks brilliant on him.....where as when she rides anything 14.2 (my horse is 14.2) she looks totally wrong!

Whatever you are happy with i think. Providing you can handle the horse and ride it well and you are happy i dont think it matters if its a shetland or a 17.2!

Of course they can !! It matters not what you look like, it's whether the partnership works well. If you get along together, no probs at all. If peeps are "over-horsed", I take it to mean they have bitten off more than they can handle not just size wise but compatability wise.

my mare is a mw 16.2 and i 5"1 my last horse was 17hh and ive just bought a 18.2 LOL

the main thing is i teach all my horses to stand like a rock to mount, and stand by anything..

Not quite the same but when I was about 10 (and maybe the height of your average 6yr old! Always been rather small :p) I used to hack out on my instructors 17.1hh showjumper, Betty. I was lucky if my feet came to the bottom of the saddle flaps, but she was a saint and never gave me any real trouble!
In my opinion, if you're comfortable on something big, you can control him/her, and you can do what you want, there's no problem :D

Yes!!! I ride a 17.2 and I'm 5ft3, getting on is a challenge without a mounting block but I've just about managed to get on from the ground when we swapped horses halfway on a hack haha!!

I am 5' and have a 16.3 ISH. We don't look totally ridiculous. However me on my RI 17.1 WB/ID had people in stitches!

I can mount from the ground at a push, but for the sake of my horse's back I prefer to use a step or leg up.

The embarrassing bit is having to stand on a step to brush her forelock and put her saddle on easily. I also have to put rugs on the PC way ie folding backwards and forwards each time!
